Jubilee House

nce Again Nut Butter has been working with the Jubilee House, located just outside Managua, Nicaragua, for the last 12 years.  The Jubilee House created a program called, Dr. Don with patientThe Center for Development in Central America (CDCA).  This program was established to address human needs created by poverty in the Western Hemisphere’s second poorest nation.  They are helping communities become self-sufficient, sustainable, democratic entities; by working with Nicaraguan communities to help them realize their own goals, rather than bringing in “ready-made solutions.”  The CDCA is working with poverty-stricken people who do not have basic human rights to add a measure of improvement to their lives. What are basic human rights? People have the right to clean water, sanitation, food, education, health care, work, clothing, and decent housing. They also strive to help communities become self-sufficient, sustainable, democratic entities.

The Jubilee House has a medical clinic that supports 15,000 community members, has started multiple sewing co-ops and has established 11 sesame growing co-ops.  Once Again supports the programs of Jubilee House in a few different ways.  We purchase sesame seeds from these co-ops.  Eleven years ago, Once Again planted 4 acres of test plots with the help of Jubilee House; today, we support the sustainability of 11 co-ops emcompassing close to 2,000 farmers in Nicaragua!

Years ago, Jeremy  Thaler, Once Again Co-Founder, arranged for the purchase of sewing machines when the local Champion Products facility closed down.  He shipped the machines to Jubilee House for their sewing co-op.  This year, Once Again will be contributing a portion of our tahini sales to support the time-honored work of Jubilee House.
